For International Women’s Day, Emma Imhof, our Commercial Manager, has taken the reins on our blog to share her experience as a woman working in the sector.
When I look back at my 20+ years in the bathroom sector, it’s incredible to see how much has changed. My early career saw me as the only woman in a team of external sales reps, stepping into male-only merchant environments, speaking to customers who were all men. It was challenging at times, but I always believed that the value women bring to the industry is undeniable.
Fast forward to today, and I’ve witnessed such a positive shift. Many more women have stepped into the sector, where I’ve been fortunate to work alongside so many brilliant female professionals. It’s been inspiring over the years to see more female merchant branch managers, buyers, and industry leaders taking their place in this traditionally male-dominated field. And the best part? We’re not just fitting in, we’re driving change.
I feel women bring a unique perspective, balancing technical expertise with real-world insight. We often look beyond the products and see the people using them, the lives we can improve, and the practicalities that make all the difference. This open-mindedness and awareness of the bigger picture are what keep the industry evolving and moving forward.
Still working in the bathroom industry all these years later and now in my role at PROCare on the adaptation side, I am hoping to see more inclusively designed bathrooms, a vital factor for housing providers to consider, as we face an ageing population. It’s a hands-on, resilient sector, and if resilience isn’t a trait of strong women, I don’t know what is!
I’m proud to work alongside so many exceptional women who are shaping our future. I am so lucky to be surrounded by like-minded, powerful women who share the same passion and goals for our business. So, this International Women’s Day, I want to celebrate all the game changers, leaders, and future trailblazers in our industry. To the women making an impact, pushing boundaries, and inspiring the next generation.
